aren't dads great?!

these kids sure love their dad. except for the girl in yellow.

we have this special notebook that the kids write in every year for father's day. they draw pictures of them doing special things with daddy and write him notes and we trace little hands. it's my favorite part of father's day. (yes, i like it even better then trying to "secretly" fry bacon and eggs while jon "sleeps in" but of course can't sleep cuz the kids are yelling about someone not passing the cereal and mom is trying to use g-rated words whiles she splatters her arms with hot grease and then freaks out when the small ones escape out the open door when it was just meant for the smoke from the bacon, then someone knocks over the ladder beside the bedroom door...)

anyway, just for the record, my man is a super involved father and helps so much with the kids! he does most of the bathing and his share of diapers and explaining and pancake making. if you ever read this sweet, you are awesome!

last week we did have max in the hospital for his tube fitting. it was sorta weird. this was our first time meeting the doc doing the procedures and were unsure of what kind of tube max would be getting or how long we would have to stay. as it turned out, they put a tube in his nose temporarily and kept him in the hospital for two days to see if he would really grow with all those extra calories being pumped into him. yes, he did grow! from 18 lbs to 19 lbs in a day and a half.

now this wednesday we have his surgery scheduled for the placement of the g-tube which is the one right thru his belly button (i think that is what they said). we will only be in overnight hopefully.

anyone who prayed for max is so kind and i thank you!

and then today was zoe's birthday too. she is three and usually a very happy kid. (we are trying to break her thumb sucking habit and if anyone has any good advice, i would love to hear it!) here she is in all of her birthday glory and jon called that last picture, queen of the dollar store. she was one tickled kid that night!

and these are just for fun. last week we got a bit of rain and check out that puddle! it came to their knees in the middle. i almost went and waded with them but i didn't want to get that wet! it was more like swimming by the end and i had to strip them and make them sit on plastic bags all the way home. they didn't even noticed the plastic stuck to their cold and clammy little legs.

if you are a fellow mom, i hope you take more time than i do to throw some silly things into your kids' days! sometimes i get too blasted serious. so next time you see me with my broom and whistle, tell me to lighten up.

"Does this belong to the earth?"

we were on a hunt from our house down the field beside the road towards grandpa's.  the hunt was for trash and my kid's sometimes picked up corn stalks or sticks instead of plastic bags and garbage. (how does thin plastic get so deeply embedded in the dirt anyway?) but i thought that was a nice way for ben to phrase his question.

i don't think i have very really celebrated earth day before, but this year it seemed important. i've been hearing a lot of people talk about us as believers being more on the ball with caring for the earth. makes sense to me. that was one of adam and eve's primary responsibilities. i never really gave it much thought until lately though.

thinking about how much my kid's treasure the paper they brought home from school and the finger painting that hangs on my fridge, and knowing how much they expect of me when they present me with one of their masterpieces... (that was a long sentence.) anyway, just thinking of all that and how much God loves his works of art; me, my kids, the gorgeous flowers at the amish greenhouse, the beach... it really made me want to take care of things for God.

so that was why i celebrated earth day. now if those impatiens would do what they are supposed to do, i would be so happy!

whoa. that was a fast month. let's see...

how about some kid pix!

the colorful eggs (note: i didn't say beautiful)

ben had cowboy day at school and so we all had cowboy afternoon at home

zoe, ben and madi (in case it's been so long between posts that no one recognizes them)

mia, the smudge faced little mama cookin' up something yummy i'm sure

and here is the dear little failure-to-thrive man himself.

more on max... where to start? well, he has always been small for his age and only for about one month was he ever even on the charts. not that big of a deal, he is just genetically small the ped says. until his weight drops and no longer follows the curve. so in the past month he has been sick some and basically his puny appetite took a nose dive. he puked at a lot of his meals and of course lost weight... we took him to the x-ray guys to get a good look at his esophegus (you know what i'm trying to spell right?) and stomach to see if there are issues. no, no issues with reflux or anything like that but the techie was a bit surprised to find his heart on the reverse side of his chest. and his stomach and liver and pancreas. it's called situs inversus and is found in 1 in 10,000 people. fortunately if it is a total flip like max's, it causes no problems. we went to a cartiologist to make sure. very thing looks fine. except the weight.

today at the ped's office (our home away from home) the dear doc took one look at my naked max and said this is serious. he lost almost 2 lbs this week bringing his weight to 16.5 lbs. at 18 months i'm told that is not good. so... next month he meets with a specialist and hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.

hope. what a beautiful word. everyone is taking me seriously and we have such great medical care here in america. and max has insurance that covers everything! i hope that we can find out what the @#%*@! is wrong with max. i hope that you will pray with me.

i hope in God.

Babies

most of my xanga friends are moms or dads or very kind people that love babies. so this isn't to convince anyone of anything new. ok.

there is a great website out there that is very informative and non-bible-thumping. they are selling a t-shirt this month for $8 (+$4 s&h) at abort73.com/relevant. if you are like me and have seen loads of pictures of tiny babies in the womb but have never seen what happens to them as a result of abortion, you can check out their videos at abort73.com. be warned, they are gut-wrenching. having watched the videos i feel lots of things. the one that makes it worthwhile is the feeling of compassion for those quarter-sized babies. and i hope God gives me an opportunity to talk to a mom thinking about abortion and i hope that i can speak intelligently and with compassion to her.

and i'll wear my t-shirt proudly.

with my 5 embryos-turned-ankle-biters in tow.

not a hoax.
i really was in southern california. can you believe, by myself!
one of my good friends from kunming is from there and she and her family are back for a bit and so i visited her and took in the sights for a whole long weekend!
my hubby is just the best! he did get some help from his mom and sisters but for most of saturday and sunday he was on his own. i gotta tell ya, he loves me and appreciates me so much more now. but he is such a sweetie for doing that. love ya sweet!!

ok, here we are in malibu. the boardwalk and beach were very fun. we even saw a sea lion playing in the water.

i really wasn't dying to do the hollywood thing. i wanted to see the coast and visit francis chan's church but they stopped doing saturday evening services and i was leaving sunday morning so i didn't get to do that. i did spend an evening with a friend who goes to his church and so i quizzed her. cool stuff happening there. and i did get to see the beach. there is a highway that follows the coast and we cruised that for an hour or so. very nice.

then i knew that if i would come back without seeing hollywood i would kick myself. it was only about a 45 minute drive from where we were and to be honest, it wasn't that wow! i was expecting lots of rich people, classy streets, you know, celebrities and stuff. there were lots of people like us. tourists, shoppers. hot dog stands and tatoo parlors. we did see some gorgeous houses that we knew someone famous must live in.

here we are at the famous chinese theater with all the handprints. that was fun. we saw the names of many famous people from clark gable and doris day and marilyn monroe to will smith and matt damon and donald duck.

this is across the road from the chinese theater. can you spot spiderman? there were loads of characters dressed up that you could take pictures with.

this was at nordstrom's. can you see the price? almost as much as my plane ticket.

so it was a good trip! i had so many pictures of the blurred insides of the car windows trying to take pictures of all the famous signs like beverly hills, bel aire, rodeo drive, sunset boulavard. good time with my friend, nice break from the kids, very nice weather!

super nice husband!
